U.S., EU Reach Agreement on Air Cargo Screening

November 7, 2008

The Transportation Security Administration has announced it has reached an agreement with the EU for screening air cargo on U.S.-bound passenger aircraft.

Under the deal, the EU will establish screening procedures that are consistent with the requirements of the Implementing Recommendations of the 9/11 Commission Act of 2007. The law calls for 50 percent of all cargo on passenger flights to be screened by February 2009.

The agency also said that the agreement includes a pledge to share classified technical information with EU officials, and work toward common technical standards.
