Customs Says Publications of 10+2 Coming Soon

September 26, 2008

The Journal of Commerce reports that publication of Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP) importer security filing rule known as 10+2 is coming soon, according to Deputy Commissioner Jayson Ahern.

Although the rule is still under review by the White House Office of Management and Budget, the Deputy Commissioner remarked on the publication that, “it could be days, it could be weeks, but I don’t think it’s going to be many weeks.”

It’s expected that CBP will introduce 10+2 in a way similar to previous rules, which would include a 60-day grace period for importers to implement the rule, and an additional year before Customs begins to sanction importers for non-compliance.
