Port of Rotterdam to Break Ground on Maasvlakte 2

August 28, 2008

The Port of Rotterdam is finally set to start construction on a new 8.5 million TEU container complex, called Maasvlakte 2, after nearly 15 years of preparation.

The $20 billion project will help Europe’s biggest box port handle growing container volumes, which have already topped 5.4 million TEUs during the first half of this year.

Dutch officials say the massive container complex will cement the port’s ranking as Europe’s largest container port.
